Okay… this is a little different. An Italian company known as Covini is seemingly going to produce (in very limited numbers) a high performance car with a six wheeled design that has been in the making since the 70’s.
A quick look on the wikipedia page will try to help answer the obvious question of “why in the blue hell would a super-car need six wheels?”
Ferruccio Covini described the advantages of having four front wheels in such a car as:
- less risk of front tires deflating
- less risk of aquaplaning
- better braking
- better grip
- better comfort
- better absorption of frontal impact
The performance numbers as it stands are lackluster at best, and the car is only RWD so that seems to even further negates the need for six wheels. Maybe they know something we don’t? The whole thing seems stupid to me.
