I posted last month how I bought Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3 and even did a little half-assed review of it. Let me reiterate: the game is fucking awesome.
The graphics are simply breathtaking, the game play is fun as well as tactical, and the story is unique and interesting. It is also a fairly long game. This game is a no-brainer for PS3 owners that happen to also be anime fans. Or even just fans of strategy and/or squad based tactical games.
Why all the whoring you ask? Well, it’s sad to hear that the game is not selling so well in the US when it is such a unique entry in this generation.
From the article:
Those fans might like to know that the game sold just 33K units in the U.S. during November, according to NPD Group.
NPD’s David Riley told Edge the game didn’t manage to crack the top 100 game SKUs for November, whose software sales roster was ruled by titles including World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, Gears of War 2, Wii Fit and Call of Duty: World at War.
Valkyria Chronicles released on November 4 in the U.S. The title first shipped in Japan in late April, where it performed much better, shifting 77K units in its first week. It debuted at number three behind blockbusters Mario Kart Wii and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, according to Media Create.
I guess one can expect a game like this to sell much better in Japan, and also there were a lot of “hot titles” released around the same time frame in the US, but come on! Are all the RPG fans really buying up 360s this generation?
Bottom line, if you own a PS3 and are looking for an excellent (and mostly overlooked) game to add to your collection, pick up Valkyria Chronicles. Isara demands it!
